This Privacy Policy explains how Pat’s Prime Cuts & Deli (operating as Pat's Prime Cuts and Deli) ("we", "us") collects, uses, shares and protects personal information when you visit this website or contact us. We are based in Ontario, Canada. We follow Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL), and for people in Quebec, Quebec's privacy law (Law 25).
The short version
- We collect what you send us in our forms, and a note of how you found our website.
- Website analytics (PostHog), visit tracking and visitor grouping (Jev) are off until you click Accept in the cookie banner. Global Privacy Control counts as a no.
- Personalised offers are off until you switch them on. They run only in your browser and are forgotten when you close the tab.
- We do not sell your personal information.
- You can see, correct or delete your information, or change your mind, at any time: our contact form.
1. Who is responsible
Pat's Prime Cuts and Deli is responsible for the personal information we hold. Our privacy contact is the person accountable for privacy (for Quebec residents, the person in charge of the protection of personal information). You can reach them at our contact form.
2. What we collect
- What you send us. When you fill in a form, email, text or call us: your name, email, phone number, company and anything you write (for example dates, quantities or questions). If you tick a box to receive news or offers, we record that you agreed, the wording you agreed to and when.
- How you found us. Our website keeps a note of how your visit reached us: the ad campaign, search engine or website that sent you (for example "google / cpc"), any ad click reference, the first page you landed on and the page with the form. It is kept in our own first-party cookies on your device (see section on cookies) and reaches us only if you send a form.
- Which page and button led you to the form. When you click a button that leads to one of our forms, the site notes that page and the button's text for this visit only (browser storage, not a cookie) and sends it with your enquiry, so we know which pages help people reach us.
- Pages before the form, only after you click Accept. If you accepted analytics, the site also lists the pages you viewed in this visit before the form and sends that list with your enquiry. Without Accept, this list is not kept.
- Your cookie choice. When you accept or reject cookies we keep a record: a random receipt number, your choice, the date and time, the version of our cookie notice, whether your browser sent a Global Privacy Control signal, and a scrambled (hashed) version of your internet (IP) address. It is our proof of what you agreed to.
- Security information. To stop spam we use a one-way, scrambled (hashed) version of your IP address to limit repeated form submissions. We do not store your IP address in readable form.
- Website analytics (PostHog), only after you click Accept. The pages you view, your clicks, how far you scroll, time on page, which sections you read, heatmaps and a rough location worked out from your internet (IP) address. Never your name, email, phone number or anything you type. See "Website analytics (PostHog) and visitor grouping (Jev)" below.
- Visits noted in our CRM, only after you click Accept. Our customer relationship manager (CRM) notes which pages of this site you visit. If you then send us an enquiry, the site passes only your name, email, phone and business name to it so those visits are added to your file and we can help you better. Without Accept, nothing is noted.
- Your visitor type (Jev), only after you click Accept. A broad group your visit fits, worked out from counts and categories of pages and clicks. See "Website analytics (PostHog) and visitor grouping (Jev)" below.
- Cookies and similar technology. See the cookie section below.
3. Why we use it
- To answer your enquiry, prepare quotes and provide what you asked for.
- To keep a record of our conversations with you and to follow up about your enquiry (by email, text or phone).
- To send you news and offers, only if you agreed (see "Emails and texts").
- To understand which of our advertising, listings and pages bring us customers.
- With your permission, to see how the website is used so we can improve it, and to make our follow-up fit what you looked at.
- To protect the website from spam and abuse, and to meet legal, tax and accounting obligations.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for purposes you would not reasonably expect without asking you first.
4. Website analytics (PostHog) and visitor grouping (Jev)
Both are off until you click Accept in the cookie banner, and both stop when you choose Reject in Cookie settings. A Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal from your browser counts as a no.
PostHog (website analytics)
PostHog, Inc. runs our website analytics, with servers in the United States. If you click Accept, PostHog receives:
- the pages you view and how long you stay on each page;
- the links and buttons you click, including clicks that do nothing and repeated quick clicks (they show us what is confusing);
- how far you scroll and which sections of a page you read (how long each part of a page is on your screen);
- where on a page people click and scroll, shown to us as heatmaps;
- your type of device, browser and screen size, and the website or ad that sent you;
- a rough location (country, province or state, and city) worked out from your internet (IP) address. PostHog discards the IP address itself. We do not store your IP address.
PostHog never receives your name, email, phone number or anything you type into a form. It links your visits with a random number kept on your device (see the cookie table). Session recording is switched on: PostHog also records how pages are used (scrolling, mouse movement and clicks) so we can find problems. Everything you type into forms is always hidden in recordings.
Jev by TypeSafe (visitor grouping)
Jev is an AI service made by TypeSafe, with servers in the United States. We use it to sort visits into broad visitor types (for example "planning an event" or "comparing options"), so we can decide who to follow up with first and how.
- What Jev receives: counts and categories of the pages you viewed and the buttons you clicked, for example "viewed three service pages", "clicked the phone number" or "came from a Google ad". Nothing else.
- What Jev never receives: your name, email, phone number, internet (IP) address or anything you type.
- If you send us an enquiry: we link your earlier visits on this site to it with a random reference number, and your visitor type is added to your file in our CRM.
- A person decides: a person on our team reviews every enquiry and decides what to do. Your visitor type is used only to decide who to follow up with first and how, and to improve the site. We do not use it to make any decision with legal or similarly significant effects on you, such as refusing a service or setting a price.
- Off by default (Quebec Law 25): under Quebec's privacy law this is technology that can profile you, so it is off by default. It starts only if you click Accept in the cookie banner and stops when you choose Reject in Cookie settings.
- Your rights: you can ask us what information was used, how your visitor type was chosen, and to have a person review it or correct the information. If a decision about you were ever based only on automated processing, we would tell you; today none is.
PostHog and Jev work for us as service providers, under contract, and may use this information only to provide their service to us. We do not sell it.
5. Offers on this website and personalised offers
Some pages of this website show a short offer, for example in a small box at the bottom of the screen. Without your OK, an offer can only match the page you are on: nothing is saved in your browser and nothing about you is used.
If you switch on Personalised offers in the cookie banner (Accept all switches them on, Reject all does not), this website also compares what you do during this visit with a few broad visitor types (for example someone planning an order or comparing options) and, once it is fairly sure which one fits, shows the offer for that type instead.
- What is used: the pages of this website you open during this visit, the buttons and links you press, which sections of a page you read and which of our forms you start or send. Never what you type, and nothing from other websites or earlier visits.
- Where it runs: only in your browser. The result (the type that fits and any offer you closed) is kept in your browser's session storage under the name csl_offer and is deleted when you close the tab. It is not a cookie, and it is not sent to us, to an advertising company or to anyone else.
- Counting: if you also accepted analytics, PostHog counts which type was matched and which offers were shown and pressed, as part of our website analytics. Never with your name, email or phone number, and never as part of a profile of you.
- If you send us a form: the type is never added to an enquiry you send.
- Open to everyone: every offer shown on this website is available to anyone who asks for it, whether or not it was shown to them. We never show higher prices to anyone, and types are never used for any decision with legal or similarly significant effects on you.
- Optional: it is off until you switch it on, and saying no changes nothing else on the site. Turn it off at any time with Cookie settings; the session storage is cleared at once. A Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal from your browser keeps it off.
- Quebec (Law 25): this is technology that can profile you, so it is off by default and starts only when you switch it on.
6. Your consent
By sending us an enquiry you consent to us using your information to respond to it as described here. Optional analytics and marketing cookies stay off until you accept them in the cookie banner. Website analytics (PostHog), CRM visit tracking and visitor grouping (Jev) start only after you click Accept, in every case. Personalised offers start only if you switch them on (Accept all does), in every case. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as a refusal of all optional cookies, and Do Not Track as a refusal of analytics and personalised offers. You can withdraw consent at any time (see "Your rights"); this does not affect what we did before, and we will tell you if withdrawing means we cannot provide a service.
7. Emails and texts
We reply to your enquiry by email, phone or text using the details you give us. Those replies are about your request. We send other messages, such as news, offers or follow-ups that are not about your request, only if you tick the box that says so on our form. Every email has an unsubscribe link and texts accept STOP. We act on it within 10 business days.
8. Who we share it with
We share personal information only with service providers who help us run our business, under contracts that require them to protect it and use it only for us:
- Our website host: stores this website and the enquiries sent through it.
- Our email service: delivers the enquiry emails our team receives.
- Customer relationship manager (CRM) (Our CRM provider, servers in the United States): Stores your enquiry, your contact details and our follow-up (emails, texts, calls and appointments) so we can answer you and keep track.
- Consent records (This website): Keeps a record of each cookie choice (a random receipt number, the choice, the time and a scrambled version of your IP address) as proof of what you agreed to.
- PostHog (website analytics) (PostHog, Inc., servers in the United States): Shows us how the website is used: the pages you view, your clicks, how far you scroll, time on page, which sections you read, heatmaps and a rough location worked out from your internet (IP) address (the IP address itself is discarded). Session recording is on: visits are replayed for us with everything typed into forms hidden. It never receives your name, email, phone or anything you type. Only after you click Accept. Their privacy policy.
- CRM visit tracking (Our CRM provider, servers in the United States): Notes which pages you visit, so that if you later send us an enquiry those visits appear on your file and we can help you better. Only after you click Accept.
- Jev by TypeSafe (AI visitor grouping) (TypeSafe, servers in the United States): Sorts visits into broad visitor types from counts and categories of pages and clicks, so we can decide who to follow up with first. It never receives your name, email, phone, IP address or anything you type. A person reviews every enquiry. Only after you click Accept.
- Google Maps (Google LLC, United States): Shows where we are on a map. The map loads only when you click to load it or allow marketing cookies; Google then receives your IP address and may set its own cookies. Their privacy policy.
How forms reach us: when you send a form on this site, your answers are saved on our website, emailed to our team, and copied into our customer relationship manager (CRM), whose servers are in the United States, so we can reply and keep track of your enquiry.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to a buyer of our business (who must protect it the same way).
9. Where it is stored
Some of our service providers store information outside Canada, mainly in the United States. While there, it is protected by contract but may be accessed by courts, law enforcement and national security authorities of that country under its laws. Before we transfer information outside Quebec, we assess whether it will be adequately protected.
10. Cookies and browser storage
Cookies are small files your browser keeps for a website; browser storage works the same way. "Necessary" ones make the site and our forms work and remember your choices. "Analytics", "Personalised offers" and "Marketing" ones are optional and are only used as described above. Saying no never stops the site or our forms from working.
Maps on this site come from Google Maps and load only when you click to load them or allow marketing cookies.

Change your cookie choice
You can change your choice at any time with the Cookie settings link at the bottom of every page, or here: Open cookie settings. You can also delete cookies in your browser settings.
11. How long we keep it
- Enquiries sent through this website: 24 months after you send them, then deleted from the website automatically.
- Records of your cookie choices: 24 months.
- Analytics data (tied to a random number, not to your name): up to 24 months, then deleted. Visitor types are kept with it and, after an enquiry, on your file in our CRM.
- Our customer relationship manager (CRM) and accounting records: while we have a business relationship with you and as long as the law requires (for example, tax records for 6 years), then deleted or anonymised.

- Withdraw consent: unsubscribe from our messages, change your cookie choice, or ask us to stop using your information.
- Deletion: ask us to delete your information, unless the law requires us to keep it.
- Complain: contact us first. If you are not satisfied, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Quebec residents (Law 25): you also have the right to receive the information you gave us in a structured, commonly used technological format (portability), to be told when technology that can profile you is used and how to turn it off (see "Website analytics (PostHog) and visitor grouping (Jev)" and "Offers on this website and personalised offers"), to be informed of any decision based only on automated processing (we make none), and to ask us to stop sharing your information or to de-index it. You can complain to the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec.
To make a request, contact us at our contact form. We may need to confirm your identity first.
13. How we protect it
We use safeguards suited to the sensitivity of the information: encrypted connections (HTTPS), restricted staff access with individual passwords, reputable service providers, and automatic deletion after the retention period. If a breach creates a real risk of significant harm, we will notify you and the Privacy Commissioner as the law requires.
14. Children
This website is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you think a child has sent us information, contact us and we will delete it.
15. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. The date at the top shows when it last changed; it updates when the services we use change. Important changes will be highlighted on this site.
